Of Google and the Search for Meaning—Free Verse

As vaguely familiar words often enter my head

In times of silence and times of distraction,

I send my son to the shower,

And search for the meaning of the word ‘punim.’

And come up with every other meaning

For every other word starting with ‘p’

Because phonetic spelling of the words

I don’t know has never been my strong suit.

And the final finding of the meaning is a letdown

After Google mistook my spelling for the word ‘punanni.’

A free verse poem has no set pattern for line or stanza length. Rhyme is not used, or it is used sparingly. The line length and the rhythm or the lines are dictated by the natural rhythm of speech or other concerns such as emphasis on a particular word, image, or idea.
