Bloated Deer Carcasses—Free Verse

I heard what you said, and I held it under a smile

Your passive aggressiveness and dry tinder on the ground

Disrupted the natural fire cycle and left flames burning under winter snow

Where there will be nothing. Nothing but a patch of fresh green shoots

And many more bloated deer carcasses for you to nibble upon.

A free verse poem has no set pattern for line or stanza length. Rhyme is not used, or it is used sparingly. The line length and the rhythm or the lines are dictated by the natural rhythm of speech or other concerns such as emphasis on a particular word, image, or idea.
