How?! How do you expect me to do this?
I mean, I get it. Some people thrive on
This kind of challenge. But this a
Vertical rock face, and I am out of
Shape. You told me we were going on a
Hike through the canyon. You did not tell me
That I was going to have to be some
Kind of daredevil if I don’t want to
Have to hike the three miles
Back along the creek to the car.
.
I wrote this poem following Linda Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt ‘how.’ If you would like to read more about her challenge, check out her sight here: https://lindaghill.com/2022/04/08/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-april-9-2022/

I love the instant connection I feel to these natural words!

Thank you. Unless I am going for some specific effect, I try to write with the same words I would speak with. I think it helps to make poetry approachable. I am glad to see you have a similar feeling. 😀

Your poem reminded me of the time I spent last fall with my brother, in Colorado. We had way too many “hikes” of three miles or longer, that included climbing, of course. Nice response to the prompt!

This was something that happened to me about 20 years ago, and I did make it up the wall. It wasn’t easy, but the alternative would have me jumping back and forth across the creek on the top of slick boulders. And I had already fallen in the creek two or three times. lol 😀

Great poem full of honest angst against the sneakiness of life 💜
