This writing I’m doing needs someone to listen
To find out if my words are insane.
My wife does not care if my poems do not happen
So I hoped for an animal to tame.
I thought I could do it—grab a dog by the ear
So I bought one and taught him to speak.
I thought I could do it by the end of the year
And I did it by the end of the week.
I grabbed one of my poems as a good example
Of the writing that I wanted to seed.
The dog had a good laugh. Then, he called me a fool.
He said, “A dog cannot learn how to read.”
