July Poem 23

Their son held it in front

Of the mouth of his mask affronted

By the pizza scented belch.

Tomato sauce, garlic, peppers, onions,

And sausage. Or was it peperoni?

It may have been washed down

With coffee and a menthol cigarette.

It was hard to tell over

The soured smell of indigestion.
